Directing

I suppose directing is an ultimate goal of mine. Some of the most fun I've had, and most dedicated I've been while making films has been while directing them.  Something about making my ideas into a reality on the screen is very special to me.

Evigilation

Campus Movie Fest 2020 was almost entirely improvised for me. With my original plan out the window, and barely a scrap of motivation to film in the early pandemic, the basic premise of Evigilation was thought up in the shower the morning of Day 3 in the CMF production week. I had 3 necessary props: my clown doll (which I include in almost everything I make), as well as a prop hand I painted and a spell book I made for my original CMF idea (which I refused to allow myself to waste). I spent the afternoon and night of Day 3 directing Myself and Myself alone through a half baked idea. After that, I spent the last 4 days of production working on some minor special effects, and really trying to perfect the sound of the short film. Luckily, the latter paid off, as I won not only a Silver Tripod, but also a Golden Tripod for Best Sound thanks to this short film.

Advice Krispies

My senior year at Bridgewater State, I took the Advanced Filmmaking class in the Fall semester.  We were tasked with writing and directing our own short films over  seven minutes long, which was the longest and loosest time constraint I've ever been given on a project.

This film was a challenge for me in multiple ways.  Aside from it being the longest film I've made, it also had the largest cast, with a main cast of three, and an additional ten extras on set.  It was interesting, having to direct a cast of 13 and a crew of 3.  I had to hold everyone's attention, and do my best to keep them from getting too miserable.

Another challenge I was presented with was technical difficulties in the form of a scene with no usable audio. We managed to get audio from the camera in one scene, but all the audio recorded on the boom for that scene got corrupted.  Of course, the camera audio was unusable due to wind, so I had to get my actors together again to do some dubbing for just about everything in that scene.

Even with all its difficulties, I am immensely proud of the way this short film turned out.

Cult Following

In 2018, I partook in Campus Movie Fest and it was such a great experience that I knew I had to do it again, only this time, I would write and direct my own film.  Cult Following was an incredible experience. I was able to direct four main actors, three extras, and four crew members with only seven days to make a five minute short film. We all put a lot of work into it, and I ended up taking on most creative roles other than music. It was nominated for a Golden Tripod for Best Story and was shown at the Terminus Festival in Atlanta, GA.

Behind the Scenes

Shark Barkley: Officer of the Law

I directed this short film for my Videography class in Fall 2017. It was my first time doing anything film related since early high school,  and it was a really great experience. It was fun, and I learned a lot from it. Of course, here I did more roles than just direct, I also wrote the script, did some music, edited, and organized a lot in pre-production.
